About Mahika
Hey there! I'm Mahika, a second-year computer engineering student at UBC (University of British Columbia) and I believe that everyone (yes, everyone!) can be good at Math with the right guidance. I understand how it feels to dig through 10 Math websites, watch 5 videos, and still be confused as I've been there too, until my Calculus teacher in high school gave me the chance to finally experience my "aha!" moment.
I have been helping my peers learn Math before exams since middle school and I have learned that everyone has their own learning style. Some understand Math better when looking at graphs, while others prefer step-by-step explanations. I'm able to adapt my teaching style to what YOU need until you also get to experience your "aha!" moment.
When I'm not studying or tutoring, I enjoy baking, photography, and reading, which keeps me creative and helps me find new analogies to use when explaining tricky concepts (trust me, I used an onion as an example to explain chain rule, once before)

#Teaching Methodology & Techniques
I believe that truly understanding Math comes from connecting concepts with practice, which is why, I use the "practice makes perfect" approach to both learn and teach Math.
1. Each lesson will begin with explaining the concept or the theory part and where it comes from. Here, I will use many examples and demo questions to simplify the learning process for the student.
2. After learning the main concept, the second half of the lesson will focus on applying these concepts to curated practice problems of different difficulty levels. For example, for a university student, I will incorporate past university exam questions into the practice problems, and for younger students, I will carefully select age-appropriate exam questions according to their curriculum.
3. I will conclude each weekly cycle with engaging Kahoot quizzes that will help refresh concepts taught in that week and help the student commit into long-term memory.
4. I can also help with existing homework or assignments or provide additional practice problems that the student can do to further hone his understanding about the subject.
#Lesson Plan
Each lesson will follow the following structure:
1. Past lesson or homework Review (5-10 minutes): Discuss any homework problems or questions and refresh the topic taught in the previous lesson.
2. Teaching Concepts (20-25 minutes): Explain the concept of the day using examples and demo questions.
3. Guided Practice (15-20 minutes): Working on practice problems together in a step-by-step format.
4. Independent Practice (10-15 minutes): Student-led problem solving with my support.
5. Wrap-up and homework Discussion (5 minutes): Discuss homework problems that I will be assigning and quickly recall the concepts taught in the lesson.
#Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for:
1. First-year university students, who want to prepare for their exams or reinforce Math concepts
2. High school students
3. Middle school students
4. Elementary school students
5.Anyone who has a passion for learning Mathematics!
I adapt my teaching style to each student's learning preferences, and my learning techniques will make sure that students have a strong foundational base in Mathematics throughout their academic journey. So, whether you're struggling with specific topics or preparing for exams, my 'practice makes perfect" approach will help you achieve your goals!
