About Devraj

Inspired Trust & Legitimacy as a Flute Teacher As a dedicated Indian classical flute teacher, I believe in creating an environment where students feel guided, encouraged, and confident in their musical journey. My approach combines patience, discipline, and a deep respect for tradition, ensuring every student learns at their own pace while staying rooted in classical foundations. I establish legitimacy through my strong grounding in classical music, consistent practice, and commitment to preserving and sharing authentic techniques. By blending traditional methods with modern teaching strategies, I ensure that students not only gain technical skills but also develop an emotional connection with the flute. Professionalism is at the heart of my teaching. I maintain punctuality, structured lesson plans, and clear communication with students. Every session is designed with care, focusing on both theory and practice, while nurturing creativity and expression. I also emphasize values like dedication, discipline, and respect for the art form—qualities that extend beyond music into everyday life. My goal is not just to teach flute playing but to inspire students to see music as a lifelong companion—something that builds confidence, focus, and inner joy.

About the lesson

As a teacher of Indian classical flute, my focus is on building a strong foundation while nurturing creativity and self-expression. I believe that learning music is not only about mastering techniques but also about developing discipline, patience, and a deep emotional connection with sound. 1. Foundation First I start by introducing students to the basics – proper posture, breath control, finger placement, and producing a pure note. Just like in classical tradition, I emphasize swaras (notes), alankars (patterns), and long notes to strengthen breath and tone. 2. Step-by-Step Progression I guide students gradually from simple exercises to raag sadhana. I make sure they understand the aaroh-avroh, pakad, and emotional essence of each raag before moving toward improvisation. 3. Traditional with Modern Touch While I follow the guru-shishya parampara (traditional method of teaching), I also use recordings, notations, and demonstrations to make learning easier in today’s context. 4. Encouraging Expression I encourage students to feel the music, not just play it. Improvisation, understanding of raag-rasa (mood), and connecting with the soul of music are key parts of my teaching. 5. Sharing Knowledge I demonstrate each lesson on the flute so students can see and hear the technique clearly. I use repetition and gradual correction, ensuring students practice with discipline. I share stories, history, and the spiritual significance of ragas to connect them with the tradition. I motivate them to listen to great maestros, attend concerts, and practice regularly to absorb the nuances.
