About Sarah
I have been working towards my Masters in Secondary Education for one year now. I have observed math teachers in a local high school for two quarters, which gave me insight into classroom instruction. Beyond that, I have privately tutored 3 students on a weekly basis for the past six months in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus, respectively. Two students were averaging C's on tests and after six weeks of tutoring, both of their averages are up to a B. I have also spent the last three months in the DePaul School of Education tutoring lab twice per week helping students with homework in a variety of math subjects. During my undergraduate career, I taught Web Development and Design classes to groups of 15-20 students at a local non-profit organization that promotes women in technology.

My undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago is in Computer Science and Journalism. I am currently obtaining my Masters in Secondary Education from DePaul University. I strongly believe in the Discovery approach to learning, whereby emphasis is placed on teaching students how to learn, rather than memorizing facts. This approach, along with inquiry-based methods, allows students to form critical thinking abilities and master concepts. I combine practice with instruction by presenting a new concept to a student, having them try to work through it based on concepts they are already familiar with, and then building on those concepts through explanation and additional practice problem sets.
