About Canissa
Transforming Math Anxiety into 100% Success for Every Learner
If your child struggles to complete math homework independently or feels "lost" in a traditional classroom, you aren't just looking for a tutor—you’re looking for a specialist who understands how their brain works.
Proven Results for Diverse Learners
I specialize in supporting K-12 students with IEPs, specifically those with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am proud to maintain a 100% pass rate in advanced mathematics classes for students with disabilities. Whether your student is tackling foundational arithmetic or the complexities of Integrated Math I, II, and III, I provide the bridge to mastery.
My Methodology: Beyond the Formulas
Most students struggle because they are taught "what" to do, but never "why" it works. My approach at Solve Smart Tutoring utilizes:
Multisensory Instruction: We use visual, tactile, and auditory pathways to cement abstract concepts.
UDL Principles: Lessons are designed for accessibility, reducing the cognitive load that often leads to "shutdowns" during homework.
The "Why" Discovery: We turn math into a fun, low-pressure exploration that builds genuine confidence and independence.
Resources for Your Journey
I believe support shouldn't end when the session does. All my students gain access to specialized tools and scaffolded resources at (concealed information) designed specifically for those who find traditional math curricula inaccessible.
Let’s turn math from a source of household stress into a win for your student.

My methodology is rooted in the belief that "math struggles" are often just "instructional gaps." I move away from rote memorization and focus on Multisensory Structured Mathematics, ensuring that every concept is anchored in a way that makes sense to a neurodivergent brain.
The Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) Sequence
I don’t start with numbers on a page. We begin with concrete tools—virtual or physical manipulatives—that let students "touch" the math. We then move to representational drawings and visual models before finally reaching the abstract symbols. This sequence is the gold standard for students with ADHD and Autism because it builds a mental "file cabinet" for mathematical concepts.
Multisensory Engagement
Visual Mapping: We use color-coding and graphic organizers to help students track multi-step processes in Integrated Math and Precalculus without getting "lost" in the steps.
Auditory Retrieval: We use verbal "talk-throughs" and rhythmic cues to help students with working memory challenges retrieve facts and procedures.
Tactile Tools: For K-8 learners, we use digital and physical tools to demonstrate volume, area, and fractions, making the "why" visible and tangible.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
I design every session to minimize "cognitive overload." By providing scaffolded notes and specialized graphic organizers from UnboundELA and Solve Smart, I remove the barrier of independent "blank page syndrome." This allows your child to focus entirely on the logic of the math rather than the stress of the organization.
Building Independence, Not Dependence
My goal is to work myself out of a job. By teaching students the logic behind the math, they stop asking "What do I do next?" and start saying "I know why this works." This shift is what leads to my 100% pass rate in advanced classes and helps students finally tackle their math homework without the tears.
