About Sophie
I am a cellist and music theory teacher, based in Greenwich, London.
I currently teach at James Allen Girls School in Dulwich, Merton Music Foundation and previously for Music Masters.
I also have experience working in two of the UK's specialist music schools - the Purcell School and Wells Cathedral School. Here I tutored instrumentalists and taught theory and academic music lessons. I have extensive experience preparing pupils for grade 5 theory exams. I currently teach theory to a number of pupils individually, as well as teaching theory classes in schools.
I am an accomplished cellist, with extensive performance experience, ranging from solo recitals to orchestral performances. I have availability to teach cello, piano and music theory grades 1-8, or assist with GCSE and A level music.

- I have taught music theory at the Purcell School and Wells Cathedral School, two of England's specialist music schools. - I have an excellent ABRSM music theory exam result track-record - I aim to provide my pupils with an excellent understanding of how music theory works, and I have great methods for teaching challenging music theory exam content. - I adapt my approach for each individual student's needs. - I want my pupils to feel supported and listened to in my lessons. - I encourage pupils to put forward their own ideas about the music, and ask plenty of questions.

Sophie is an excellent teacher. I am an adult beginner, and in just an hour she managed to fix all of the major problems that I have been having (so far!), and has made me feel comfortable practising on my own until our next lesson. Highly recommended!
Sophie is an excellent musician and diligent, hardworking tutor who would do her utmost to help any student improve their musical capabilities and understanding. I would highly recommend her as a tutor and have also enjoyed performing together with her in the past in our string quartet.
