About William
My name is William, and I am a Berkeley Computer Science student with a strong background in math, programming, and problem solving. I am a USAJMO/USAMO qualifier and USACO competitor, and I have several years of experience tutoring students in math and related subjects.
I have worked with middle school and high school students through one-on-one tutoring, math team, and volunteer teaching in East Palo Alto. These experiences taught me how to explain difficult concepts clearly, stay patient when students are stuck, and adjust my teaching style to each student’s needs.
I take tutoring seriously and always try to create a comfortable learning environment where students feel okay asking questions. My goal is not just to help students finish homework, but to help them build confidence, understand the reasoning behind each step, and become stronger independent problem solvers.

My name is William, and my tutoring approach is based on making difficult ideas feel simple and approachable. I usually start by figuring out where the student is stuck, then I break the topic down step by step with examples before having the student try similar problems on their own. I do not want students to just memorize steps. I want them to understand why each step works so they can solve problems with more confidence.
A typical lesson starts with a quick review of what the student is learning in class, then we go through confusing homework problems, strengthen weaker concepts, and end with practice problems to make sure the student can apply the idea independently. For programming, I like to teach through examples, debugging, and hands-on problem solving instead of only explaining syntax.
What sets me apart is my background in both math and computer science. As a Berkeley CS student, USAJMO/USAMO qualifier, and USACO competitor, I have experience with advanced problem solving, but I also know how to explain things patiently in a way that makes sense. My lessons are best for middle school and high school students who want help with math, competition math, programming, or building stronger problem-solving skills.
