About Katrina

Hi there! I'm Katrina, a U of T graduate student with an Honour's BSc in Physics. I know finding the right tutor is crucial for your learning experience, so I want to show you why I'm a great fit.

First things first, I have a strong academic track record, graduating from my Honours Physics degree with a First Class Distinction at York University. I also graduated with the highest academic average out of every student at my high school. Physics has always been my passion, and I can't wait to share my knowledge and skills with you in a way that's fun and engaging.

I've been a peer tutor during high school and university, which taught me a lot about how to connect with students like you. I'll adapt to your learning style and make sure our sessions are effective and enjoyable. Throughout my own journey, I've also struggled and overcome challenging classes, so I understand the feelings of stress, anxiety, and frustration that can come from school. I'm here to help you succeed!

I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, specifically in the field of Computational Neuroscience. I use Python constantly in my research, where I employ unsupervised learning artificial intelligence to investigate Alzheimer's Disease. It's fascinating to see how physics and computing play a role in healthcare, and I'll bring that real-world perspective to our lessons. Let's make learning practical and exciting!

Beyond the books, I've spent over three years as a camp counsellor and dance instructor. These experiences have taught me patience, adaptability, and how to create a relaxed and inclusive environment. You can feel comfortable asking questions and expressing yourself freely during our sessions.

So, get ready to tap into my academic excellence, tutoring expertise, and friendly personality. My goal is to boost your confidence, ignite your love for learning, and help you achieve your academic goals with ease.

Thanks for considering me as your tutor. I'm thrilled to embark on this learning journey with you and provide the support and guidance you need. Let's make learning an awesome adventure together!

TL;DR: my teaching methodology revolves around active problem-solving, tailored lesson plans, an interdisciplinary approach, and a kind, positive learning environment!

As a tutor, my approach is centered around actively engaging with students and fostering a collaborative learning environment. I believe in tailoring my teaching methodology and techniques to suit the unique needs and learning styles of each individual student. By understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and goals, I can provide effective guidance and support.

In terms of teaching methodology, I emphasize a problem-solving approach. I encourage students to actively participate in the learning process by working through problems and exercises, as this helps solidify their understanding of concepts and builds their problem-solving skills. I provide explanations and demonstrations when needed, but I also encourage students to think critically and independently. I have a knack for breaking down complex concepts and making them easily understandable.

A typical lesson plan with me involves an initial assessment of the student's knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. This helps me identify any knowledge gaps and areas that require more attention. Based on this assessment, I design a lesson plan that focuses on addressing those gaps and reinforcing key concepts. During the lesson, I explain and demonstrate relevant topics, discuss examples, and work through practice problems with the student. I also encourage active participation and questions to ensure a comprehensive understanding.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my interdisciplinary background. Being a Physics Honours graduate who is currently a Master's Student studying computational neuroscience, I possess a strong foundation in both scientific and computational principles. This enables me to provide a holistic approach to problem-solving and helps me connect different subjects and concepts together. Additionally, my experience in tutoring a range of subjects, including physics, math, chemistry, and Python, allows me to offer a comprehensive educational support system to my students. I furthermore have a wealth of experience working with children and teens as a dance instructor and camp counsellor.

My tutoring services are available to students at various academic levels, from elementary school to undergraduate university, including MCAT prep. I am well-equipped to assist students in physics, math, chemistry, and python. Whether a student is struggling with fundamental concepts or seeking advanced guidance, I adapt my teaching style to suit their specific needs. My friendly, kind, and knowledgeable demeanor ensures a comfortable and supportive learning environment where students can ask questions without hesitation.
