About Thomas
I am a 3rd year Mathematics student at The University of Sheffield. I have A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry. I am a determined and focused individual who is always looking to take on a new challenge. Whilst completing my A levels I was a maths mentor to several GCSE students at my school so have some experience in teaching maths.

My teaching method is to first work out what it is exactly the student is struggling with. I will then set a problem related to this topic and see how the student gets on. If they do not understand it I will simplify it a little. I repeat this process until we reach a level where the student understands what they're doing, and then begin increase the difficulty before finally reaching the original problem that the student could not do. By building the levels of understanding and breaking the question down, the original question that seemed so hard becomes a lot easier and more manageable.
With mathematics I find it is important to offer a range of techniques as different students have different preferences. Its my responsibility to show the student the multiple ways of answering a question, and the student can make their mind up with which way they work best.
Different students react differently to different ways of being explained something, so if a certain explanation doesn't seem to be working I change my wording/technique to better fit that student.
