About Tonya
Methodical practice stands as the only way to retain mathematical concepts over the long term. Admitting you do not understand a derivative is the first step towards getting it right. We focus on active application where I provide a homework module assigned with every lesson to solidify the day's work. Truthfully, the transition from an MArch at the Bartlett to the world of computational design felt like learning a second language. I spent 8 years in the London scene before deciding that I preferred the classroom to the studio.
My Cambridge BA provided the base, but 384 students taught since then provided the real education. Working with professionals who need a refresh on calculus can be quite different from guiding a high schooler through competition maths.
Some days I find myself explaining trigonometry to a software engineer who forgot their basics. Other times we are deep in the weeds of complex exam prep. I generally keep things direct because maths requires honesty regarding what you do not yet know.
It helps to have a teacher who has actually applied these numbers to building skyscrapers. I find that most learners just need someone to clarify the notation.
