About Christina
With 17 years of experience as a certified teacher in both general education and special education settings, I bring a high level of expertise, structure, and professionalism to every tutoring session. I have worked with a wide range of learners, from students who need foundational support to those aiming to strengthen and refine their skills, particularly in math and science.
My approach is clear, supportive, and results-driven. I understand how to break down complex concepts into manageable steps while maintaining high expectations for student success. I consistently use proven instructional strategies, ongoing assessment, and targeted feedback to ensure that students are not only completing work, but truly understanding the material.
I pride myself on being reliable, organized, and communicative. Families and students can expect sessions that are well-planned, focused, and tailored to individual needs. I also understand the importance of building trust—many students come to tutoring feeling frustrated or unsure of themselves, and I work to create a positive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and taking academic risks.
My background in special education allows me to support students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs, attention challenges, or anxiety, while my experience in general education ensures that all instruction remains aligned with grade-level standards and expectations.
Above all, I am committed to helping students build both competence and confidence, so they leave each session feeling more capable and prepared than when they arrived.

My approach as a tutor is rooted in building both confidence and independence in my students while making learning accessible and engaging. With 17 years of experience teaching both general education and special education populations, I understand that no two learners are the same, and I tailor my instruction to meet each student where they are.
Teaching Method and Techniques
I use a highly differentiated, student-centered approach that combines explicit instruction, guided practice, and gradual release of responsibility. I break down complex math and science concepts into manageable steps, using visuals, real-world examples, and hands-on strategies whenever possible. I also incorporate questioning techniques to promote critical thinking and ensure true understanding—not just memorization. For students who struggle, I provide scaffolds such as graphic organizers, sentence starters, and structured notes, while still maintaining high expectations.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session begins with a brief check-in and review of prior learning to activate background knowledge. I then introduce the lesson objective in clear, student-friendly language. Instruction is modeled step-by-step, followed by guided practice where we work through problems together. Students then move into independent or supported practice, depending on their needs. I incorporate frequent comprehension checks throughout the lesson and end with a summary or exit task to reinforce key concepts and assess understanding.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students who may feel discouraged or overwhelmed. My background in special education has equipped me with strategies to support students with learning differences, attention challenges, and anxiety, while my general education experience ensures I maintain grade-level rigor. I focus not only on academic growth but also on helping students develop self-advocacy skills, organization, and confidence in their abilities.
Who My Lessons Are For
My tutoring is best suited for elementary and middle school students, particularly in math and science. I support a wide range of learners—from those who need remediation and foundational skill-building to those looking to strengthen their understanding and improve performance. I have extensive experience working with students with IEPs, as well as general education students who benefit from additional support, structure, and individualized attention.
