About Emma

I grew up in the UK and immigrated to the United States 20 years ago. I myself possess near-native fluency in Spanish so I have been through the process of learning a second language. I also studied second language acquisition as part of my Master's Degree at NYU. I am fortunate enough to have an in-depth understanding of what it means to learn not just an additional language, but also an additional culture. Having extensive experience teaching students from a wide variety of countries and backgrounds, I am able to effectively anticipate linguistic challenges.

About the lesson

Firstly, and most importantly, I get to know my students so I can tailor authentic and dynamic lessons. I need to have a clear understanding of their linguistic goals. This is an ongoing conversation.

Lessons usually begin with a "Do Now" activity to warm up, then a "Mini lesson" during which I explain and teach the objective of the lesson. Then the student undertakes the activity (which can be speaking, listening, reading, or writing, or a combination). We finish with a share/discussion and then an exit ticket, to ensure the student has achieved the language objective.

I am experienced with and teach all levels and all ages.

Perfect! I am grateful to Teacher Emma for the wonderful effort she has put into teaching my brother and sister. She excels in dedication and noticeable professionalism in guiding them towards improving their language skills. She has the ability to guide students with a style that combines knowledge and positive interaction. She succeeded in motivating them and enhancing their understanding of the English language effectively, despite their mother tongue being Arabic.

Teacher Emma stands out with kindness and high efficiency in assessing the students' levels. She adeptly evaluated their proficiency and provided appropriate motivation. My younger brother enjoys his time with her, spending moments reading stories and discussing his interests and activities. Although his speaking skills were weak initially, everyone now feels great happiness for the progress he has made. The family expresses gratitude to Teacher Emma for her continuous efforts in promoting and improving my siblings' language skills.

When Emma subsequently moved to New York, she took her Masters in Spanish and ESL, thus enabling her to teach both. In more recent years, she has specialised in ESL, where her care and concern for her students distinguIshed her as exceptional.
