About Emma
I have worked as a university Writing Center tutor for over two years, helping undergraduate students with essays, research papers, proofreading, and a variety of academic and creative writing projects. I currently serve as a Lead Tutor, which means I continue working directly with students while also mentoring other tutors, helping them strengthen their tutoring skills, and supporting the day-to-day work of the Writing Center.
In addition to academic writing, I have experience with short stories, creative nonfiction essays, and fiction writing, especially science fiction and fantasy. I also work as a freelance editor and am a published fantasy author on the side.
My experience has taught me how important it is to meet students where they are and help them gain confidence in their writing as they strengthen their skills. I strive to create a supportive, encouraging, and professional environment while still making sessions feel collaborative and approachable.

I use a collaborative approach to tutoring, working alongside students to help them strengthen their writing skills. I want students to understand the choices they are making in their writing and not just be told what to fix. I’m a firm believer that writing is a process, and that writers improve most when they have helpful, knowledgeable feedback along the way. My goal is to help students build confidence and become stronger writers.
My lessons vary depending on what each student needs. At the beginning of each session, I take some time to talk through the student’s goals so that we are on the same page. From there, I adjust the session based on what would be most helpful, whether that means brainstorming, organizing ideas, revising a draft, improving grammar and clarity, or working through a specific assignment. I want students to leave each session feeling like they learned something useful and have a better idea of what to do next with their essay or writing project.
I have worked one-on-one with undergraduate university students for over two years. I understand how stressful college writing can feel, especially when someone is just starting college or returning to school after being away for a while. I do my best to create a comfortable and encouraging environment where students feel okay asking questions, making mistakes, and working through difficult parts of the writing process.
My lessons are especially suited for high school seniors, undergraduate college students, and nontraditional students returning to school who may need some extra support with academic writing. I can help at any stage of the writing process, from figuring out how to get started to revising and polishing a final draft.
Recommendations

Emma is a talented writing tutor.
She helped me on a number of essays I wrote while pursuing my Business Administration degree. Instead of just correcting my writing, she always asked me questions and prompted me on what to check. This helped me submit better essays, but also improved my writing overall.
Emma's abilities are not limited to the obvious. When applying for my MBA, she took the time to review what I had written for my letter of intent as well as my resume. She was able to give me useful feedback on both and I give her a great deal of credit for my being accepted by every program I submitted for.
I highly recommend Emma's services.See more recommendations
