About Ji
I am a PhD student in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, with a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering. My engineering and research background involves extensive use of mathematics, physics, data analysis, and quantitative problem solving.
I enjoy explaining mathematical ideas in a clear and logical way and helping students understand the reasoning behind each step rather than relying on memorization. I am comfortable working with students from middle school through introductory university level and can adapt my explanations to different learning styles, backgrounds, and goals.

I focus on helping students understand the logic behind mathematics rather than simply memorizing formulas. I break problems into clear, manageable steps and explain why each step works, so students can apply the same reasoning to new questions independently.
A typical lesson starts by identifying the student’s difficulties, reviewing the key concepts, and then working through representative problems together. I can adapt the pace and level of explanation depending on the student’s background.
My lessons are suitable for middle school, high school, and introductory university students, including arithmetic, geometry, general mathematics, and quantitative problem solving. I can also help students apply mathematics to physics and engineering-related problems.
