About Irika

I am an aspiring chemistry/maths teacher with a passion for the subject and a student-centred mentality.
I'm currently in my first year of university but at GCSE and A-Level I tutored individuals in STEM subjects and helped to improve their grades - for example, one GCSE student went from a 2/3 to a 6/6 from January to examinations in June. I also delivered revision sessions to my peers both supervised and unsupervised by a member of staff.

About the lesson

I'm a very caring person and from my own student experience, I find personalisation is a key factor of learning. I aim to understand how you prefer to process information, offer tips and advice and ultimately help you to achieve your goals in a way that is beneficial to you.

I pride myself on being very student centred and ensuring that every aspect is tailored to suit you.
Studies show that students are more receptive to information if the information is given to them in a way that they can understand. I aim to build their understanding on topics they struggle with by simplifying regardless of their level but in order to cater for students who may be looking to achieve the top grades, I will also introduce past papers and challenge questions, for example, as ways to get the students to put into practise what they've learned and become familiar.

A general structure of a lesson would be a small test on the topic to see what prior knowledge you have. From there we discuss the topic bit by bit and the student can take notes as we diverge into what aspects they're particularly struggling with and work on those. I would then end with another small test on the topic to see how much they've improved over just the first session. From then on each of the starter tests will be from the last topic to ensure the student is continuously recalling the information they learned while also moving onto other topics.

Prices can certainly be negotiated as I am aware that despite being experienced, I am unqualified as I have not achieved my bachelor’s degree as of yet.
However this does not take away from my ability to help you/your child achieve their goals and beyond.
