About Jessica
I have been a teaching assistant within the university since starting my PhD, helping students in small groups and individuals during labs and working through tutorial problems set by professors.
I am a tutor for students in Year 12 writing an extended project/essay in addition to their A levels and have worked with undergraduate students on a one-to-one basis on problems and final year projects

Hi,
I'm Jess, a PhD Student in Materials Science and Engineering at the University, tutoring in Maths and the Sciences. I am passionate about getting people engaged in Science, Engineering and Maths and have been involved in outreach throughout my time at University and began teaching undergraduates and running outreach events during my PhD.
Outside of studying and tutoring, I have a number of hobbies including playing Netball, Piano and singing in a Choir.
Lessons in larger groups at school can be challenging as students find different parts of the curriculum challenging, but overcoming those challenges with support, time and patience is really rewarding.
I have always loved maths and science, and I aim to help students find their passion for the subject through helping them understand the topics and discover they CAN do it! I prepare structured sessions and notes, tackling a subject step by step to help understanding of the topics, building up to answering exam style questions. Everyone has a different way of remembering information (I like making lists and using lots of pictures) and I try to present information in a way that the student finds most useful.
I can provide help with learning and revising the subject matter, tackling homework problems, set homework tasks and work through example exam questions to improve exam technique and build confidence.
