About Mazie
I am an undergraduate studying biology and psychology at NC State University. I have a passion for anything pertaining to cells, animals, and plants! My desire to teach and help students understand concepts is most important to me as I have 3 other siblings that will ask me for help with their homework all the time! I have 3 cats, a hamster, and 2 dogs that are the light of my life! I am inquisitive, kind, and a great listener. I am so excited to learn with you and help you with your learning needs!

Hi, I’m Mazie, and I specialize in tutoring biology and precalculus. My goal as a tutor is to make challenging concepts feel approachable and intuitive. In biology, I focus on helping students truly understand the processes behind the facts—whether it’s the intricacies of cellular respiration, genetics, or ecosystems. I use clear explanations, visual aids, and real-world examples to bring the subject to life and make it easier to retain. In precalculus, I emphasize logical thinking and pattern recognition, helping students move beyond memorization and build strong foundational skills in topics like functions, trigonometry, and limits.
Each session typically begins with a quick review of the previous lesson, followed by a deep dive into a new concept. I guide students through examples step by step, encourage them to think aloud, and provide plenty of practice to reinforce their understanding. We always end with a short recap to make sure key takeaways are clear and to outline any next steps.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to adapt to each student’s unique learning style and pace. I bring energy, patience, and a supportive attitude to every session. My passion for biology shines through in my teaching, and I’m just as enthusiastic about helping students conquer their fears around math. I work with high school students in standard, honors, and AP-level biology and precalculus courses, as well as college students in introductory biology. I also help students prepare for standardized tests like the SAT, especially in math and biology sections.
