About Arwen
Hi, my name is Arwen. I am currently enjoying my studies at Cardiff University. A little about me... I grew up in Newquay which is in Cornwall- you may know Newquay from Boardmasters Music and Surf Festival. I really enjoy my extracurricular activities; I have been dancing, singing, acting, and playing music from the age of 2, having performed in lots of shows and even writing my own songs. This led me to get qualifications such as Grade 7 ballet and Grade 8 musical theatre while learning grade 8 level saxophone and playing my guitar in Hotels. In my first year of University I was on the University Lyrical Dance team where we won National Champions at our last competition of the season. I also like to play sports like football, but I could go on forever talking about the sports and activities I enjoy. One thing that I really enjoy doing is setting tough challenges for myself and working towards those dreams. I am really enjoying studying Chemistry and it's a great stepping stone towards the careers I'm interested in. I am currently considering becoming a Doctor due to my interest in medicine and patient care, but am also really interested in the corporate side of science. Those are some of my goals that I have been and am working towards. Following on from this, I would like to inspire confidence, resilience, and determination in students so that they can also be closer to and reach their goals. This ties into a really good quote that my teachers used to say to us at school-"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again". So, if at first a topic seems too tricky, we can tackle it together and try some different methods until the student feels confident to face the next challenge head on.

I will base my teaching off of Exam Board specifications and level of understanding. I will ask students for a list of things they would like to go over prior to lessons so that we can get as much done as possible, this also helps me prepare for the lesson. If students are unsure of what they want to go over I would recommend asking their teacher for a list of topics that they personally may have struggled with in past assessments, or haven't learnt yet that may be tricky in upcoming assessments. I'm happy to teach all ages above 10years old and will cover SATS-GCSE level education. Typical length of a lesson will be an hour but this is flexible depending on the student's needs. In terms of my experience, I have taught dance lessons to students age 6-17, helped teaching in maths lessons at my previous school with 1-1 focus for students that needed help catching up following COVID-19. I am very experienced in Leadership, communication, and student needs from being in roles like wellbeing mentor, student buddy, student council representative, head of the student council, deputy head student, student ambassador etc. in my time throughout lower school and sixth form.
