About Hyunwoo
Hi, I’m Hyunwoo! I am a recent IB Diploma graduate and currently a first-year student at UBC. Having recently completed the IB myself, I understand how challenging and stressful the program can sometimes feel, especially when preparing for exams and managing multiple subjects at once.
I studied both Business Management and Economics at Higher Level, giving me first-hand experience with the IB curriculum, assessments, and exam expectations. I aim to create a comfortable learning environment where students feel free to ask questions, make mistakes, and work through difficult concepts without pressure.
As a tutor, I am patient, approachable, and flexible. Rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way, I adapt my explanations and lesson pace to each student’s needs. My goal is not only to help students improve their performance, but also to help them become more confident and independent in approaching IB Business Management and Economics.

As a recent IB graduate and current UBC student, I understand the challenges that IB Business Management and Economics students face because I have recently gone through the same experience myself. My lessons focus on making difficult concepts easier to understand and, most importantly, applying them effectively in IB exams.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the topics the student is struggling with. I then explain the concepts step by step using real-world examples before moving into IB-style questions, diagrams, case studies, and exam techniques. I can also help students understand how to structure their answers and use key terminology effectively.
What sets me apart is my recent experience with the IB Diploma. I understand the workload, assessment style, and common difficulties from a student's perspective, allowing me to explain concepts in a clear and relatable way rather than simply repeating textbook definitions.
My lessons are designed primarily for IB Diploma students studying Business Management or Economics at SL or HL level. Lessons can be adapted depending on whether the student needs help understanding course content, preparing for exams, practicing questions, or improving their overall confidence in the subject.
