About Erika
The English language has been one of the many gateways I have found to establishing long-term friendships and connecting with people on a deeper level. Engagement with literature - be it through reading or through writing - allows people to access a deep levels of themselves. Partly because it is such a strong medium of self-expression, writing is hard. Consulting like-minded people about methods to improve is not a show of weakness, but of a willingness to admit that our minds do not encompass the entire world. Everyone requires a little external stimuli to keep their thinking fresh and healthy. I do this through active participation in writing groups and societies, academic pursuit, and research. I am here so that I can offer to you what many others have given me. When not teaching, writing or studying, I enjoy painting, hiking, and trying to get my wildflower seeds to germinate.

My teaching methodology hinges on communication and collaboration. Homework is suggested rather than given, students are expected to be self-motivated. I give advice, direction, and try to introduce mental and literary schemas that allow students to flourish independently. This is to lower dependency on long-term outside help as much as possible. The typical length of a lesson is 1 to 1.5 hours. Lessons will generally occur in the evenings. Lesson times are decided based on individual circumstances. In some cases it may be possible to schedule a lesson in the morning. Students should be 13 plus years old. The goal of lessons will be either self-improvement (i.e.: improvement of craft), or preparation for an exam (International Baccalaureate English A, English GCSE, A-level English). I will be in contact with students before the first lesson to identify key details about their specific needs and requirements.
