About Conor

confusingI am a science student who has completed a BSc in biological sciences, a postgraduate diploma in applied sciences focusing on plant physiology, agronomy, and biological statistics, and a MSc in biology in seed priming pea seeds for pollen viability and other plant yield parameters in heat stressed and glasshouse conditions. My background heavily focuses on statistics, plant sciences, animal physiology, cellular science (eukaryote cells more so than prokaryote), agronomy, and genetics. A lesser focus has been on soil science, environmental sciences, and ecology during my BSc. This year I will commence my PhD, likely in organic phosphate and yield parameters in several crop species. The reason I'd like to tutor is because my goal is to become a teaching professor associate at a university focusing on lectures or lab research for undergraduate classes. Additionally, I love what I study, talking about this with students already passionate about the subjects. Or students who think science and statistics is a confusing grind and showing them it is in fact interesting and that there is an area in STEM that they would enjoy. The past year I was a lab assistant at UC for BIOL254 - Plant Physiology. This is what spark the teaching interest and has helped me to become a better tutor.

About the lesson

I will assess where the student is confident and unfamiliar in the respected area and build on this. From there, I will adapt to the student's learning style and try to improve how they learn. For example, using a common high school biology subject, photosynthesis. It is important to break down the steps of the chemical reactions in photosynthesis, how light and water influence this, and how the plant's physiology ties into all of this. These steps will be put into sections that will flow to create the beginning to end process with additional details that will ensure an excellence mark. Additionally, biology exams rely on short answers or long answers (essays). Therefore, it is important to convey the steps and processes of photosynthesis into organized and concise steps that show understanding without the writing part of assessments reducing grades.
