About Hemant

I am a fine artist whose practice is rooted in the Himalayan region, where I explore the deep connection between people, place, and nature. Working primarily plein air, I paint directly on location—capturing not just the visual, but the emotional and spiritual essence of the mountains. This approach allows me to respond to the ever-shifting light, weather, and mood of the landscape in real time.
My journey began during a three-year stay in a Himalayan valley, where I closely observed the rhythms of nature and how they reflect our inner transformations. I see painting as a dialogue with the land—each canvas a moment of stillness in a fast-moving world. By focusing on traditional homes, seasonal changes, and sacred natural spaces, I aim to celebrate the cultural richness and environmental wisdom of the mountains.
Through my work, I hope to raise awareness about the need to preserve these fragile ecosystems and timeless ways of life. Every brushstroke is an offering—to the land, its people, and the shared stories that shape us.

About the lesson

Hello, I’m Hemant, a professional fine artist and art teacher specializing in oil painting, landscapes, plein air painting, alla prima portraits, and observational drawing.

I’ve spent years developing my own practice through painting directly from life and studying traditional approaches to color, light, composition, and form.

My teaching is focused on helping students understand the fundamentals behind a painting rather than simply following a formula. I work with students according to their individual level, goals, and interests.

Whether you are completely new to painting, returning to art after a long break, or already painting and want to take your work to the next level, I can help you develop a stronger understanding of:

• Drawing and proportions
• Light and shadow
• Color theory and color mixing
• Composition
• Landscape painting
• Plein air painting
• Alla prima oil painting
• Portrait painting
• Brushwork and edges
• Painting analysis and critique

Classes are conducted online and can be tailored around a specific painting, skill, or long-term learning goal.

My aim is not just to teach you how to make one good painting, but to help you understand the process well enough to create better paintings independently.
