I will first give a basic assessment so that I can see the level of the student. I like to give demonstrations and target one point per lesson.
I will be facilitating each lesson according to the level of the student and the expected outcomes they would have communicated to achieve within the lesson. I believe it takes time to learn a skill so more than one lesson would be preferable. I also believe that being creative also means being playful and thus would create an environment where 'play' inspires learning and inspiration.
My drawing lessons will incorporate drawing using pencil, washes and charcoal.
I base my classes on a step by step methodology, starting with lessons on drawing according to exact and correct proportions. Therafter, I cover theory on colour mixing and shading. Painting is a personal journey for each individual, once the basic foundations are covered students are able to explore techniques to discover what works best for them.
I believe a student and teacher should have a good relationship and a strong foundation. The learner should feel comfortable and free to make mistakes. I love making my lessons fun and exciting by adding something that they enjoy doing. That way they will be eager to learn. I also like using examples or parables which makes it easier for them to understand.
My teaching is very practical process learning that allows the engagement of both teacher and students, and the ice-breaker i am suing are direct or translation of the lesson that i will be delivering and this allows both students and teacher to create a safe space for learning.
I approach each student based on their own needs and requirements. The work that needs to be done for each student is dependent on the skills they want to master and the outcome of the creative process they want to engage with.
