« Alex was my Visual Arts teacher at high school. He is humorous, knowledgeable and creative. The enjoyment I found in the conceptual depth and technical mastery of his artistic expression, inspired me to study Fine Arts. Since then I have had a solo exhibition and been on many group shows, as well as having completed many commissions. Alex's advice and investment has been instrumental in achieving all of these endeavors. I have regularly met with him to receive guidance within my professional career. Professional Artist with MVA offering Practical and Theory in Art tutoring for all levels

Methodology

Creativity exists in all of us and I am good at facilitating how this potential is unlocked in each student. I have taught at high school and tertiary level for many years and this is where I operate at my fullest potential. I do not believe in molding students to a particular way of thinking but rather adapt my teaching to finding the student's own voice and creative expression. I am also an expert in assisting with conceptual development regardless of the chosen medium. I have experience in working with classical drawing, painting and sculpture, and have professional training in contemporary art practices.

Background

I am an artist and art educator with over 25 years of experience. I have taught at both High school and tertiary level, as well as given private lessons and workshops to people of all ages and skills levels. I have exhibited my own work in galleries in South Africa and abroad and worked with renowned artists. My students describe me as insightful, creative and inspiring and I pride myself in helping each student's unique creative expression to emerge.

I have witnessed Alex first hand teaching, he challenges students to grow, all the while nurturing their individual talents.

Alex is my Visual Art teacher. He is superb at helping with the development of projects and ideas for projects. He is supportive and helps one to transform an idea into a reality. He often suggests better ways of going about transforming an idea into a reality which often leads to an artwork that is both aesthetically captivating and intellectually interesting. He encourages a challenge and has pushed me out of my comfort zone to help me discover my style as an artist. I would recommend him as a tutor.

Alex is passionate about the work he does and is able and willing to give a gentle push to students towards new avenues that students may have never thought of trying before.
His grasp of subjects and knowledge has been built up over years of experience both as a teacher and working artist, my time being taught by him introduced me to art forms and styles I had never really considered but found out to be perfectly what I needed.
Most importantly, Alex has a good grasp on people and how they work, this helps with the emotional aspects that are prevalent in art.

Alex is an amazing mentor and an incredible teacher. He has an impeccable knowledge of sculpture, anatomy and art history. Alex shares this knowledge readily and easily. He is patient and always willing to think of creative solutions to problems. He inspires the best work from his students and will (gently) push to ensure that you reach your full potential. I have had the privilege of working with Alex for the last year and a half and would recommend him highly to anyone on the website who is looking to learn anything about art.

I have had the privilege to work shoulder to shoulder with Alex for a number of years. I am amazed at his creative and persistent nature on a daily basis. His knowledge and expertise in the Visual Arts is extensive, and he has an innate ability to draw great work from even the most mediocre of students. His empathy and belief in humanity makes him a stand-out in these extraordinary times, and also informs his sculptural work.
