Being an education student, I have learned various teaching methods to use with in a classroom. However I feel that the interactive teaching method usually works best with children, because there are countless ways to check for a learner’s understanding. I prefer being more practical and hands on, so engaging with a student is really important. Lessons will be dependent on how much work there is to cover in the term and will be divided accordingly. Lessons will vary and incorporate worksheets, physical activities such as crafts (accommodating for tactile learners), countless amount of exercises and examples, videos and pictures (accommodating for the visual and auditory learners) etc.
I am currently a third year education student, studying towards my BE.d Maths & Languages at UWC. I did a teaching internship in 2016 at Claremont Edublox Reading and Learning Clinic where I taught children of various ages and some with disabilities. At Edublox I was involved in a home schooling program for CAPS curriculum (Impak) which allowed me the opportunity to tutor different grades in English, Afrikaans and Mathematics. I have done lots of private tutoring for Maths and English over the past two years for both primary school and high school learners. I am looking for a way to earn extra income to help my single parent mother pay for my studies.
