About Jen
I went to UC Berkeley for my undergrad and UCLA for my MA/PhD. With zero prep, I earned a 1500 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT. I teach students how to think. I taught university and high school courses. I've been teaching and tutoring since 2010. I wrote many scholarship and grant applications and received every single one I applied to... including the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. If a student needs help with a subject or project not listed, please reach out anyway. It may be in my areas of expertise, and I also have several colleagues to whom I can refer you.

Teaching and coaching are my joys in life. I am a concierge tutor and coach. Gifted and bored at school? Different learning styles? Want to get ahead of the pack? Cognitive differences? Fights homework? I treat every individual holistically. Strategies and critical thinking skills are a feature of every session, and they're individualized for every student. I tutor middle school through college students for: standardized exam prep, subjects, foundational skills, study habits, advanced skills, homework help, etc. ACT and SAT prep for Math, English/Writing, Reading, and Science. GRE/GED/ASVAB in those general areas... as well as various subjects and APs: Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, PreCalc, lower-level Physics and Statistics, Chemistry, Biology, Healthcare, Environmental Science, General Science, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Anthropology, Spanish, Social Studies, Sociology, Psychology, History, English, and more. I also help with Statement and Essay Writing. ... Statements of Purpose, Personal Statements, Grants, etc. All my students have earned the scores they desired or better through hard work and consistency. CONSISTENCY IS NUMBER 1! A student's attendance and work ethic, as well as commitment level, will determine the value of tutoring. Missing sessions stalls or negates progress! Students who begin programs need to finish them to see the benefit. A regular schedule is necessary. Failing students need 2 or more sessions a week. Exam Prep students need minimum 2 sessions a week, 1 per content area. Subject Tutoring to maintain grades can squeak by with one session a week. Rates: Subject Tutoring is $140 per session; Exam Prep is $160 per session. All sessions are 2 hours. I have a home base (and one alternate), a public location in the community, providing the perfect tutoring environment. Coming to me, rates are set. If you want me to come to you, there will be a premium travel charge. Please visit the following link to view my current session availability. (concealed information)
(I'm also a health coach, specializing in Nutrition, Strength, Stress/Sleep/Recovery, Habits/Behavior Change, Gut Health, Longevity, Peri/Menopause, and Lipedema. Reach out for those details or visit the Coaching Link at my calendar.)

Jen was my son’s tutor. She helped him work on his ACT skills as well as his writing skills. He was not the easiest of students… a 16 year old boy who really didn’t want to be tutored, and who was being held hostage by his Mom
Jen was able to create a bond with him and encouraged him to apply himself. She helped him master test taking skills and held him accountable when he didn’t show up prepared. When he first met Jen his initial ACT score was a 21. After 4 months he scored his best ACT score ever with a 32.
Two weeks ago he was accepted to his dream college and truly recognizes that it was because of the skills he learned from Jen and her team as well as the work he put in to learning what she had taught him.
Thank you so much Jen.I cannot way enough great things about Jen. She is a thoughtful instructor that provides careful guidance tailored to each individual student. She has worked with several of my children with exceptional results. Her patience, attention to detail and ability to motivate is a game changer. Jen is an educational asset to both the student and parent.
I cannot say enough great things about Jen. Her care, concern and follow through with her students and families is second to none. She is responsive, adaptable and willing to listen in order to reach the student's goals. She has been the biggest blessing to several of my children and I highly recommend Jen as a tutor!
Jen brings a rare combination of patience, clarity, and genuine enthusiasm to her teaching. I first met her when I brought my son to prepare for the SAT, and what impressed me most was how naturally she adapts each lesson to the way he learns. She never rushes, always checks for understanding, and explains concepts in a way that finally makes everything click.
Jen offers deep insight into today’s standardized tests: especially the SAT and ACT. She knows the strategies that lead to strong scores and tailors her instruction to each student’s needs. Her dedication is unmistakable, and it shows in the confidence she builds in her pupils.
I highly recommend Jen to any student looking for a tutor who is knowledgeable, encouraging, and truly invested in their success.I have nothing but positive things to say about our experience with Jen and her team of tutors. My son had taken the SAT twice on his own and was in dire need of last minute help to get the score needed. Jen was professional, honest, thorough, fast and flexible. She came up with a plan that fit our timeline and needs and the tutors did an excellent job putting my son on the right track. Needless to say, he got an even higher score than his goal. I would recommend Jen and anyone she recommends for tutoring.
