About Hintsa
Dr Hintsa Zwelinzima Mhlane is a researcher and education policy planner. He holds a Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) in Information Systems & Technology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Hintsa has vast experience and knowledge in the development of policy in respect of the use of information and communication technologies in education (ICT in Education). He authored the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education’s e-Education Strategy; and the provincial implementation plan for the provincial Mathematics, Science and Technology Strategy.
Dr Mhlane has worked extensively in science education, technology education and teacher education in Mathematics, Science and Technology. He designed and developed the Advanced Certificate in Education: Technology, in collaboration with the University of Greenwich, while he was working at the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CASME) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He led the Science and Technology materials development team of the Upward Bound University-wide Enrichment Programme. This was a joint project of the University of KwaZulu–Natal and Pennsylvania State University.
He has published and presented papers at international conferences including the British Educational Technology Show and Study Tour (BETT, 2005 & 2007), Scottish Educational Technology Show and Study Tour (SETT, 2006). Between the 13th and the 17th of January 1999, he attended the 7th meeting of the Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics and Science Education held at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare.
In 1997, he was sponsored by the National research Foundation (NRF) to attend a six week course in Education for Science and Technology at the Aharon Ofri International Training Centre in Jerusalem, Israel.
Hintsa is currently a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society which accounts for the top fifteen per cent of high flying academics internationally. Membership to the society is by invitation only and is based on research output and academic achievement. Dr Mhlane is an accredited skills development facilitator.
