About Archie
My name is Archie and I would love to help inspire my students in the realms of chemical, nuclear and quantum sciences.
I have had many personal experiences and interactions with people and projects in the science community, as you will see under the section about my lessons.
I like to relate these experiences to the lessons to aid my tutees to underatand better, the realism of what they are being taught and how it can be useful in the future.
I didn't always want to study science myself, however I became inspired by reading a book called "Itch" about a boy who collects chemical elements, including a fictional radioactive one. This then led to me starting to research the subject of the periodic table and collect physical elements from it, some of which I isolated personally through a variety of experiments. I also began collecting a range of historical artefacts containing radioactive elements such as Radium, Thorium and Uranium, which I learned to store safely in self-made radiation shielding containers. ️
I would be honoured to instil my passion into my tutees and to help more people understand the vast world of science!

I thoroughly enjoy chemistry and the subjects of nuclear and quantum physics, along with their histories, they fascinate me. I teach these subjects broadly or localised as requested by a student; I can teach hourly or for set times, as required, as I understand some students prefer to work for different durations.
I have achieved grade 9's at GCSE level in science and I have finishihed College at grade A in A-level chemistry and B in physics. I have won first place in a science fayre for these very subjects and used the prize money to fund my own experiments and equipment, including those required to isolate elements from the periodic table.
For this, I produced many research papers on the historical, industrial and medical uses of nuclear isotopes; I can make this available for students to read.
I also won a county smoothie competition by making it change colour by using natural pH indicators present in certain fruits and vegetables.
I have visited a home laboratory and met a multitude of chemists and physicists, some of whom I collaborate with online via Discord on a range of projects. I have also interviewed Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff from Nottingham University and the popular science YouTube channel "Periodic Videos," for the benefit of a lecture hall of peers to learn more about Green Chemistry, sustainability projects and the periodic table.
Over the last summer while at college, I spent a week on an intensive quantum mechanics, gravitational and black holes physics course with a Professor at Southampton University, learning calculus up to the full derivation of the Schrodinger equations.
I am currently working towards a chemistry degree as a laboratory apprentice within the aerospace industry and have had plenty of experience handling and analysing the chemicals required to produce electrochemical treatments on aerospace grade materials. I routinely test fuel, coolant and hydraulic fluid samples and review the legislation and specifications required to remain compliant to PPE and analytical standards across the chemical industry. I can give any insights into my work, as requested by students.
I am also willing to challenge students to a periodic table duel in which they can name any element and I'll tell them the number or vice versa along with symbols and group positioning or uses of that element; through short fun games like that at the end of a lesson, students can become more inspired to retain the knowledge given to them and go onto succeed in their subjects; these were the very same methods I used to achieve my grades throughout my GCSE's. I also have my collections of the periodic table and radioactive artefacts which I can use to demonstrate the principles I am explaining, hopefully helping students to become more immersed in the reality of the science they are learning.
I will use my personal experiences to relate to the lessons and help broaden the understanding of science in the creative minds of my tutees.
I encourage students to go beyond what is required of them for their grades on the curriculum, as the more knowledge they may have on a subject, the more they may stand out from a sea of applicants, so ask as many questions as possible!
I can teach Year 12 students and under in my relative subject areas and beyond, as far as I can stretch my own breadth of knowledge.
