I like to take my students through the same process of learning information as I go through, throwing them into the deep end with a practice question at the beginning, allowing them to try and figure it out using information that they had prior to the lesson, encouraging them to explain aloud or write out clearly why they choose to do certain things. Then I show them where they went wrong or how they could improve their process, taking them through the basics of the topic and building them back up so that by the end of the lesson they have an in depth understanding of how to solve a problem and what pitfalls to avoid.
I have only ever taught others casually, working as a peer mentor at school, helping my sister with her studies and volunteering at schools, helping disadvantaged students with their school work (which I have done since the age of 15).
