About Terry

I’m an experienced education professional who brings energy, empathy, and a track record of helping young people thrive. I’ve worked in schools and alongside teachers for many years, and I will soon be training to teach geography in a secondary school. I have a degree in Sociology and Politics and a career background supporting young people in education, youth programmes, and community settings. I’ve also worked directly with school leaders, youth organisations and policymakers — giving me a broad and grounded understanding of what helps students succeed. I’m patient, reliable and well-organised, and I take real care to create a supportive environment where learners feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow in confidence.

About the lesson

My tutoring is calm, supportive and student-centred. I adapt my approach to each learner, taking time to understand their strengths, challenges and goals. Whether a student is preparing for GCSE or A Level exams, building essay-writing skills, or just looking to grow confidence in a subject, I tailor each session to their individual needs. I encourage critical thinking, curiosity, and real-world connections across the social sciences. I use questioning, discussion, scaffolding, and structured activities to help students make sense of complex ideas and develop independent learning habits. My lessons are 60 minutes, though I can offer longer or shorter sessions depending on the learner. I’m also happy to tutor paired or small groups, which can help make learning more collaborative and cost-effective. I’m soon to start training to teach Geography at secondary level, starting September 2025. I have a BA in Sociology and Politics and professional experience working in education, youth services, and research. I’ve recently worked as a cover supervisor in schools, helping students across KS3, GCSE and sixth form with humanities and social science subjects. I support learners aged 11–18, including GCSE and A Level students, and I’m happy to work with adult learners who are returning to study or want support in current affairs, citizenship or social science topics.
