TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
A student grows into a rational adult with the ability to better comprehend his/her/their environment and navigate through society by developing their critical thinking ability. Today, teaching students the "scientific method," which is conducting a scientific investigation to prove or disprove hypotheses, is crucial to establishing a foundational understanding of how professional academics and scientists add to the body of scientific knowledge and arrive at solutions to world problems.
A classroom, of course, should, first and foremost, be a place of learning. However, it should also be a place of discussion and engagement with peers, wherein the topics introduced and collectively debated lead to a better conceptual understanding. I intend to design thought experiments and use real-world examples to teach how scientific and biological concepts work. I would want students to be excited to attend my class because it would help expand their understanding of the possibilities an education in the sciences can offer.
Reading about a scientific concept from a book can sometimes be dull and uninteresting. However, watching the concept or principle work in real-time or designing an experiment based on the principle will provide more recall value and stoke students' interest. I will aim to create a classroom environment where students can interactively study (with their fellow students and subject matter via experiments). I intend to help students understand how the world works and possibly help them think of solutions to problems in today's world or lead to new avenues of discovery in STEM fields.
