About Amber

I love chemistry! It is everywhere, at the centre of products we use every day and at the heart of solving problems that the world is facing. I really enjoy sharing my love for chemistry and have been doing whilst at university as a student ambassador and through engaging in chemistry outreach where I can. Despite loving chemistry, I am well aware that it will never be a walk in the park! I totally get what it can feel like to struggle to remember all the equations, how to apply all the different rules and even worse - their exceptions! I promise that despite the hard work it is such a rewarding subject and as your tutor my goal would be to increase your confidence in the subject and give you the tools and tricks to help you do your best with the content that you're learning.

About the lesson

I am flexible to teach for the length of time that would suit you best and I concentrate on levels GCSE to A-Level - though if a senior school student requires some aid on a topic I would be happy to help.

Having completed a TEFL training course in 2023, I am able to use different teaching techniques to cater content delivery to a student’s preferred learning style.

I really love the subject and am good at explaining what is so exciting about it - a skill developed through engaging in chemistry public outreach and working as a paid university chemistry ambassador. Fostering interest in subject is key to increasing engagement, effort and getting results from tutoring. This is why, when teaching challenging topics I like to draw in real world applications of the knowledge to the lessons, giving the student more to remember the topic and lesson content by.

Lesson structures I offer are:  

-Going over challenging questions that have been attempted and helping the student see what went well as well as what could go better next time thus highlighting and working on the areas for improvement (be it in exam technique or topic understanding.)

-Attempting questions together with the same outcomes as listed above.

-Teaching content that wasn’t quite understood upon first teaching in a new way and helping the student see how to apply it at the end.

-Offering revision advice and beginning the process of making these revision resources together.

Seeing the broader picture in chemistry can help aid understanding and accessing higher level marks so in my tutorials I will also ask inter topic questions as well as helping with specific topics.
