About Matthew
I graduated with a first class masters degree in chemistry from The University of Edinburgh in July. I have since opted to complete another masters degree in data analytics, having turned down a full-time teaching role at a university.
As part of my degree I completed a placement at a high school in which I taught chemistry lessons to classes of approximately 20 pupils. I have also tutored privately throughout the duration of my degree.
Notable tutoring successes include an individual who had never studied chemistry in her life, but several months later achieved a top grade in her Higher chemistry exam, which meant she met her university conditions. Another individual failed his preliminary exam but went on to get an A grade in final exam. All of my pupils have have shown significant improvement in their chemistry grades.

I firmly believe that every single pupil is capable of achieving top grades. This often just requires in depth discussion of the core chemistry topics followed by lots of practice. I have observed that by instilling a bit of confidence into my students, they are able to flourish.
Lessons will begin with focused discussions and explanations of any material the students have been struggling with.
I will then cover new topics from the course with the students, explaining the core concepts in detail with the aid of figures and diagrams.
We'll then spend the remainder of the lesson answering exam-style questions. This is crucial and so I typically like to spend at least half of the lesson doing this, depending on the lesson length.
