About Oliver
I am a recent graduate from Pacific Lutheran University's Master's in Education program. I have worked at elementary and middle summer schools as an EA, where individualized instruction was a focus for students. I had also worked as an AVID tutor to assist with college readiness at the high school level, prior to my time at PLU's master's program. My time as a student teacher was at a socio-economically diverse school where I learned to make my teaching representative of the population I served. I value a variety of lessons as students learn in many different ways. I have had experience teaching students from many different ages and social groups. What I have found is that no matter the demographic, I am able to find a way to teach in a relatable way and find what works best for my students.

I have experience working in the elementary, middle, high school, and college environments. A common lesson plan would begin with an easily accessible question, observation, or task for the student to engage with. This would relate to the content of the lesson in order to assess prior knowledge of the student. Next would be the lesson itself, which I would make relatable or personal to the student. It is also most important to recognize and cater to the student's strengths, while also spending time focusing on the improvements to be made for the future when concluding the lesson. I will always make time to find a way for the student to reflect on the learning that took place. I find that one of my strengths is listening to students. I find a place for students to speak from their own experience and show me what they know, before I give further instruction. Every student has value to be brought to the surface; it is my job to help them recognize their values and teach them how to use them to the best of their abilities.
