About Emma

I am a professionally qualified TEFL teacher and a native English speaker. Since obtaining my CELTA qualification in May 2019 I have taught English to students of a wide variety of nationalities, between the ages of 16-46 years old, in private language colleges in both Brighton and Chichester. I have taught students of all levels, from beginners through to advanced. I also teach English in private tutorials at my own home.

I have a degree in Modern Languages from Oxford University and speak advanced-level French. This might be useful to you if you are a French speaker who would like a teacher who can translate or speak to you in French if and when required.

I love teaching English because I believe that sharing a language allows us to build bridges between cultures and helps us to understand each other a little bit better, something that is very important in today's world.

About the lesson

What interests me most is personalising lessons to whatever is most important to you. You may wish to learn English for career purposes, or in order to pass a particular exam, such as TOEIC. It may be that you are planning a trip to the UK and wish to improve your conversational English, including vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation in order to better communicate when in the UK.

Whatever your reason, if you decide to learn English with me, we will go through the following steps together:

First of all, I will establish your level of English and discuss your needs and wishes, so that I can focus on your particular objectives and requirements.

Next we will organise a class, or perhaps a short course of classes, where we can either talk about a topic or number of topics that interest you, or you can choose to spend time on a particular point of grammar point, or verbs and verb tenses, or growing your vocabulary, or all of these.

In all cases, my learning materials are based on the Common European Framework of Reference and cover speaking, reading, listening and writing.

After each lesson I will email you personal feedback outlining what has been covered in the lesson, including vocabulary and grammar points, with the aim of reinforcing your learning experience and aiding revision.

I am fully flexible regarding when you want to have your lesson, whether that is after work, at the weekend, during your lunch break or even early in the morning!
