About Vicky

I have been teaching English for over 20 years and I absolutely love it!! I have taught English in private language schools in Turkey, Spain and Portugal and I have also taught English in the UK to learners from Africa, Asia, South America and Europe who were seeking to work and live in the UK. After living abroad myself and after having to learn a foreign language to survive I am very patient, sympathetic and can provide the essential language a learner may need. I have experience teaching all levels from complete beginners to advanced proficiency. I have also taught for a wide range of purposes from Business English to academic purposes, from learners wanting to hone their speaking and conversational skills for a holiday or presentation at work to learners wanting to complete application forms for work or benefits in the UK. My learners have told me that I am patient, easy going and gentle natured. I am now a mother of three school children who have now taken my level of patience to an all time high! I believe English has the power to transform lives, and I enjoy helping people to do this, as well as learn from my learners everyday.

About the lesson

Language is about communication and I like to get my learners using the language as much as possible. I will provide new vocabulary and guidance on grammar structures, pronunciation tips, error correction and recommendations for further direction. But most importantly I provide opportunities to practice the language using fun, interesting and engaging conversational activities, topics and role plays.
In our first session I would like to get to know you, hear your experiences of learning English so far and talk with you about your intentions and goals. Perhaps you need to pass an exam, perhaps you are looking to improve fluency and confidence in the language, or perhaps you need to host a presentation or talk. I will listen to your English, ascertain your level and I will be able to give you an outline of how I can help you. I will base the sessions on your needs.
Learners have commented on my gentle natured and friendly approach. I aim to make learners feel comfortable first and then provide opportunities for language practise to take place and confidence to grow. I find it rewarding to hear my learners attempt more and more complex grammatical structures while participating in conversation.
I enjoy lots of things, especially the outdoors and I enjoy sharing my passion for it. I love running, swimming and yoga. I also love cooking and sharing recipes - you can never tire of talking about food! I also love discussing world news, topical debates and cutting edge stories. I love learning and I am sure I will have a lot to learn from you too!
