About Mikaela

I’m a qualified and registered primary school teacher with extensive experience supporting children who are struggling academically, have learning difficulties or need a more individualized approach to learning.

Much of my teaching experience has been in rural and remote communities, working with students with diverse and complex learning needs. I have supported children with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism, working-memory and processing difficulties, intellectual disability, anxiety, school refusal and trauma.

Mathematics intervention is a particular strength of mine. I have worked extensively with students performing below their expected level, including helping students who began one to two years behind in
progress to an age-appropriate level within a year. I love helping children have those “I finally get it!” moments in math by finding a way to explain concepts that works for them.

I’m currently completing further postgraduate study in Guidance, Counseling and Careers, which complements my interest in supporting the whole child, not just their academic skills.

Above all, I’m patient, approachable and genuinely enjoy getting to know each student. I want children to feel comfortable, capable and proud of the progress they make.

About the lesson

Every child learns differently, so every lesson is tailored to the individual student. I take the time to understand your child’s strengths, interests, learning needs and any gaps that may be holding them back.

Rather than simply giving students more schoolwork, I bring learning back to the foundations and explain concepts in clear, practical ways until we find what makes sense to them. Lessons are engaging and encouraging, incorporating games, hands-on activities and your child’s interests wherever possible.

I place a strong emphasis on building confidence and creating a positive relationship with learning. My goal is for students to feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and experiencing genuine success.

Whether your child needs support with reading, writing, English or maths, is working below their expected level, has learning difficulties, or simply needs a different approach, we’ll work together at a pace that challenges them without making learning feel overwhelming.
