About Tessa

I am a qualified English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) teacher with a very high quality of English for conversation, exams (such as IELTS), business, and study.

I completed my qualification with Let'sTEFL and have had experience tutoring adult students to pass the IELTS examination.

Currently, I am also a Psychology student which keeps my English level to a very high standard as I am required to constantly be submitting A+ level academic, specialized English. Plus, I have been the author of many short works of fiction and a brief scientific journal article.

English, reading, writing, and speaking have always been a great passion for me and during Primary school, I won a nationwide distinction award for English.

Therefore, my students can be sure that they will be learning from a tutor with a very high standard of English.

I have been specifically trained to teach English to any age group and am very happy to work with individuals, small groups, or large groups. I love meeting new students and forming a great teacher-student friendship so my students will enjoy each and every lesson!

About the lesson

I am comfortable teaching any student, at any level of English. From young child to business professional, I will make learning English fun and engaging.

I have a very specialized approach to teaching English and prefer to thoroughly assess every student's/ classes level and create lesson plans based on their unique level, learning speed, and style. My prefered lesson plan structure is Presentation-Practice-Production, however, I am very flexible and like to incorporate fun activities, task-based learning and opportunities to test students ability.

Often I will create the lesson plan for each class the night before so the material is correctly suited to my student's needs and I strive to make each lesson engaging to improve learning.

The first lesson (free 45-minute session) is a chance to get to know the student and for them to get to know me. During this, I will gauge what the students' goals and motivations are, their skill level, and personality to ensure I can create the perfect learning pathway and lesson plans for them!

I put a lot of time and effort into preparing and delivering my lessons to students and promise to give them the best possible learning experience. I want to make learning English exciting and share my passion with them.

Details

Cancellation policy: lesson changes/ cancellations must be made 24hrs in advance.
IELTS mock examination: I also provide an IELTS mock examination. This lasts 3 hours and can be useful for understanding your current level or in preparation for taking the final IELTS examination. I prefer to deliver these in person and can travel to your home or organise for a teaching space in Auckland, however they can also be delivered online. Mock Examination fee: $150 (this covers exam material, practice, marking, and advice on further study). If you are interested please contact me for more information.
