About Daniel

I’m Daniel, a qualified secondary English teacher with a genuine love of language, literature and creative writing. I became a teacher because I enjoy helping young people find the confidence to express their ideas and realise that English doesn’t have to feel intimidating.

I have taught English in secondary schools for four years, working with students with a wide range of abilities and additional learning needs. I particularly enjoy finding different ways to explain something when the traditional classroom approach hasn’t quite clicked for a student.

Alongside teaching, I have experience marking GCSE examination papers for AQA, which has given me valuable insight into what examiners are looking for and where students commonly lose marks.

My approach is patient, encouraging and straightforward. I want students to feel comfortable saying, “I don’t understand this,” because that gives us somewhere useful to start. My aim isn’t simply to help students improve a grade, but to help them become more confident and independent in English.

About the lesson

My lessons are built around the individual student rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. I begin by identifying each student's strengths, areas for development and personal goals, then use these to plan focused and engaging tuition.

I offer 60-minute lessons covering KS3 English, GCSE English Language and Literature, and GCSE resit preparation. Sessions can focus on areas including reading and analysis, creative and transactional writing, exam technique, revision and building confidence.

I am a qualified secondary English teacher with a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing, English Language and English Literature, a PGCE in Secondary English and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I have four years' experience teaching the AQA English specifications and have also worked with AQA marking GCSE examination papers.

I believe students make the best progress when they understand not only what they need to improve, but how to improve it. My aim is to create supportive lessons where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing greater independence and confidence in English.
