About Rory
I owe a lot to my parents to being exposed to a lot of books and literature at a young age. It helped me understand that a language is not something you either can speak or can't speak. I have a master's degree in playwriting from the University of Manchester, and now work as a professional playwright. But my success isn't down to being a native English speaker, it's about my approach to language. We should never stop trying to develop the ways we express ourselves. A non-native English speaker with a true appreciation and love for the power of language may put their feelings into English in a far more effective way than someone who has spoken the language since they were an infant but doesn't take care with their words. Expressing your true self in another language is often the hardest thing, even if you do have some basic vocabulary and grammar. My lessons will be about understanding what you want to achieve with your English, and working creatively and thoroughly to get there.

A*s in English at GCSE and A-Level led me to a Russell Group University to read Theatre. I went on to develop my creative writing practice and achieved a master's degree in playwriting from the University of Manchester, where I studied under acclaimed writers Anders Lustgarten and Chloe Moss. I now write and produce plays in Manchester, work as a freelance travel writer and a researcher/writer in the B2B podcast industry. I received tutoring training from the Tutor Trust, a charity that partners with schools, colleges and other educational providers to deliver high-quality, high-impact tutoring to young people across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Tees Valley and West Yorkshire. I now wish to offer my skills as a teacher to people trying to improve their grasp of the English language. I do so making the most of my creative abilities, which keeps lessons fun, fresh and engaging. My lessons are suitable for adults whose first language is not English, but want to become more fluent and natural sounding. Whether you're at the beginning of your journey or have a good foundation already, my lessons can be tailored to your experience to help us reach your goals together.
