About Donald

I am a seasoned children's illustrator with nearly two decades of experience in children’s publishing, I’m passionate about helping artists grow. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your craft, I’m here to guide you—from foundational skills to advanced techniques—and support your journey toward becoming a stronger, more confident artist. I have collaborated with major publishers including Scholastic, HarperCollins, and Random House. My portfolio includes over a dozen published children’s books and numerous projects in the educational market.

About the lesson

Lessons are flexible and tailored to your individual goals—whether you're looking for a fun, easygoing experience or a more challenging and structured learning path. You’re welcome to let me know if you'd like to receive homework; while it’s optional, drawing in your spare time is one of the best ways to improve.

I offer instruction in a wide range of subjects, including: human anatomy, faces, portraits, animals and caricatures (some of the most challenging but rewarding areas). I also prvovide instruction on foundational concepts such as perspective, composition, and color theory.

With my experience in the children’s book industry, I also offer guidance specifically tailored to aspiring children's book illustrators. This includes: creating book dummies as well as understanding layout, pacing, and visual storytelling.

If you already have artwork, I provide personalized critiques and paint-over demonstrations to show practical improvements. I also offer full portfolio reviews with tips on how to elevate your work.

The first class is a relaxed introductory session (less than an hour) where we’ll get to know each other, assess your current skill level, and talk about what you want to achieve in drawing and painting.
