About Alex

I currently teach atelier classes at Canvas Method in East Vancouver where I have led Van Gogh and Lucian Freud masterclasses, beginner oil and acrylic painting, drawing fundamentals, portrait painting, and expressionist portrait painting workshops. I am well-versed in the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and design but I also like to encourage students' individual creativity.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Animation and Visual Effects and have worked in the film industry over the last 12 years in both London and Vancouver. I recently left film to pursue painting and teaching full time and had my first solo gallery show titled Hyperpresent this November.

I am actively involved in the local arts community, and this past summer I helped to organize the new Astro Arts Festival in Mount Pleasant and painted my own mural. I want to bring my passion and professional expertise into the classroom, giving students a unique perspective on contemporary art practices and creative careers.

About the lesson

My name is Alex Beadle, and I am a professional visual artist and art instructor.

My teaching mantra is "learn to paint like YOU" as I believe in balancing the fundamentals of fine art with developing your unique creative voice.

Using contemporary Atelier methods I will teach you how to expressively draw or paint subjects from photos or from life.
Skills taught include:

• Sighting and measuring
• Understanding perspective and form
• Accurately drawing portraits and still life scenes
• Color theory and color mixing
• Shadows and light
• Fine art composition
• Expressive portrait drawing and painting
• Handling fine art materials and preparing surfaces
• Expressive brushwork, mark making and shading

I give you the tools to develop your art practice and independently find your style.

My classes are perfect for beginner-intermediate artists aged 16+

Whatever your level I can help you take your art to the next level!

I can teach you online or at my studio at the Astro Arts Centre in Mt Pleasant or I can meet you within Vancouver.
