About Erika

I've been teaching people of all ages since early 2016 but started one-on-one classes in April 2017. Since that time, I've had more than fifteen regular students and taught several workshops. Since my class also focuses on helping the students to feel comfortable and confident about their practice, I seek to help them work out those natural insecurities that come with art-making. This allows the learning process to be smoother and less intimidating. One of my main goals is to help students gain confidence in their own developing skills. In the past, I've met with my students at the library and even at parks and public spaces (especially for gesture exercises, fast sketching, and urban drawing). I am fully vaccinated and will keep my face mask on during the lesson. See you soon, Erika Medina

About the lesson

Hello, My class starts from the idea that ANYONE can learn how to draw with the right approach. These classes are designed for beginner, intermediate level students and anyone who wishes to work on their observational skills. Besides the technical side of the class, I also focus on building the confidence and knowledge through MAKING. I honor the effort and bravery of those who wish to learn or to perfect their drawing skills by designing the lessons around their learning style and interests. __________________________________ Art supplies not included. The student must be +8yo. Also, please note that I will only travel up to 10 km to the student's home. The hourly rate for longer commutes will have to be negotiated. Perfect! Erika is currently tutoring my grade 7 daughter, helping her to expand her art skills and grow her confidence. When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I've drawn since I was little. However, since I was planning to become a coroner, art was really a hobby for me. I chose graphic design a year before applying to university, but I switched to fine arts and illustration after a semester. It just made more sense to me.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
Knowing that drawing and painting is a field where you can keep learning for the rest of your life is very exciting to me. Also, I love finding visual ways to represent stories or ideas.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I am determined to prove that anyone can learn how to draw.

My mentor Javier Ramos Salazar, who is a hyper-realistic painter and an amazing human who is both wise and humble.
