About Ryan
Passionate about mathematics and physics, I love nothing more than sharing knowledge and explaining things. What I particularly enjoy about teaching is finding different ways to present a concept: using examples, images, or analogies to make sometimes abstract or technical concepts accessible. My university studies have provided me with a solid foundation in mathematics and physics. I am currently a Master's student in Materials Science – Physics at the ENS de Lyon, after earning a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics (CUPGE) and continuing my studies in fundamental physics at Sorbonne University. I also have significant teaching experience. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored second-year undergraduate students (LAS 2), providing support and instruction in various subjects, including analysis, algebra, and thermodynamics. My role also involved helping them solve problems, answering their questions, and identifying concepts they were struggling with. I particularly appreciate this aspect of teaching: understanding why a concept is difficult to grasp and finding another way to explain it. Sometimes it's necessary to revisit a more fundamental idea before moving forward, and I believe it's essential never to leave a student with the impression that they "aren't cut out for math or physics." For a long time, my classmates have naturally come to me for help when they encounter difficulties in their courses. I've always enjoyed taking the time to explain and adapt my reasoning to the individual in front of me. In the longer term, I hope to become a researcher and teacher in theoretical physics, with a particular interest in cosmology and particle physics. Therefore, tutoring is much more than just a side hustle for me: it's also an opportunity to continue developing a skill that is particularly important to me—that of communicating science and inspiring a desire to understand it.

I offer private tutoring in mathematics and physics, from high school level up to the third year of university (L3), either in person in Lyon or remotely via videoconference. My method is based primarily on a genuine understanding of the material. Before working through a series of exercises, I take the time to discuss with the student and ask them to explain, in their own words, what they have understood. This allows me to quickly identify areas they have mastered and those that need further review. Once the essential concepts are understood, we work together on exercises to solidify knowledge and develop the necessary reasoning skills. I adapt to each student's individual difficulties and don't hesitate to revisit more fundamental concepts when they present a challenge. There's no shame in reviewing a concept that is considered "mastered": in mathematics as in physics, a solid understanding of the basics is often essential for lasting progress. The exercises will be selected according to the student's needs, and when appropriate, I can also create original exercises tailored to the concepts being covered. Finally, I can prepare personalized summary sheets in PDF format, allowing students to easily find the essential points of the course and review them effectively, particularly in preparation for a test, the baccalaureate, or a university exam. My goal is therefore not simply to help students complete an exercise successfully, but to give them a sufficiently solid understanding so they can then reason and progress independently.

Excellent prof.
