About Gareth

As a former scuba diving instructor, rugby coach, and experienced educator, I bring a diverse range of skills and passions to any role I undertake. With over a decade of experience in teaching, coaching, and mentoring, I am dedicated to fostering growth and development in those around me. My journey as a scuba diving instructor instilled in me a deep appreciation for safety, communication, and teamwork. These principles seamlessly translated into my role as a rugby coach, where I spent over 10 years nurturing young athletes both on and off the field. As a player myself, I understand the dedication, discipline, and resilience required to excel in competitive sports.
In the realm of education, I hold a first-class degree in Education studies and a PGCE qualification, which have equipped me with a robust understanding of pedagogy, curriculum development, and educational psychology. My passion for teaching is matched only by my commitment to creating dynamic and engaging learning environments where every student feels valued and supported.
As a father of three children, I recognize the importance of empathy, patience, and adaptability in fostering positive relationships and promoting holistic development. My experiences both in and out of the classroom have taught me the value of tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual learner. In all facets of my professional and personal life, I strive to instill a sense of curiosity, resilience, and self-confidence in those I encounter. Whether through the thrill of exploring underwater worlds, the camaraderie of team sports, or the transformative power of education, I am dedicated to empowering others to reach their full potential.
In summary, my diverse background as a scuba diving instructor, rugby coach, educator, and parent has shaped me into a versatile and passionate individual with a deep commitment to personal and professional growth. I am excited about the opportunity to continue making a positive impact in the lives of others and contributing to the advancement of education and sportsmanship in our community.

As an enthusiastic educator with almost ten years of experience, I have honed my craft by developing and implementing dynamic curriculums that cater to a broad spectrum of subjects, spanning both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. My approach revolves around fostering a stimulating learning environment where students are motivated through positive reinforcement and interactive instruction, ensuring concepts are grasped through hands-on engagement and careful observation.
My teaching methodology revolves around the principles of motivation, active learning, and personalized instruction. I firmly believe in the power of encouragement to inspire students to excel and in reinforcing concepts through interactive classroom activities. By tailoring lessons to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, I've successfully nurtured students' literacy, numeracy, social, and cognitive skills.
In addition to classroom instruction, I've been deeply involved in administering annual Standard Assessment Tests in English and Maths, undertaking rigorous moderation processes with colleagues, other schools, and local authority experts. This commitment ensures that the standards I uphold align seamlessly with government benchmarks, guaranteeing a high-quality education for every student.
With a comprehensive understanding of the national curriculum, I prioritize empowering students to express themselves fluently, both verbally and in writing. Through meticulously planned lessons across core and foundational subjects, including Physical Education (PE), of which I've served as coordinator for both Key Stages, I aim to cultivate confident communicators and well-rounded individuals.
