About William
I'm a medical doctor (MBBS) and practising GP. My background is in surgery: I sat the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons' Surgical Primary Examination in anatomy, physiology and pathology. I have since spent more than ten years working in internal medicine. I also hold a BA, and I've always enjoyed teaching as much as clinical work.
I have tutored university students in physiology and biochemistry for 8 years, across Problem-Based Learning Tutorials.
I remember how overwhelming these subjects felt as a student: huge amounts of content, taught as facts to memorise. In practice, doctors don't recall physiology and biochemistry as lists. We reason through them every day, from a patient's blood results to why a drug works. That is what I teach.

One-on-one online lessons for university students in physiology, biochemistry and microbiology. Suitable for biomedical science, health science, nursing and pre-medicine students, and for GAMSAT Section III preparation.
How each lesson works
We start from a short clinical case, such as a patient with diabetic ketoacidosis or a man pulled from a house fire, and work back to the science behind it.
You predict what happens before I explain, so you build reasoning, not just recall.
I draw diagrams live on my iPad, and you receive the annotated notes as a PDF after every lesson.
We link each topic to a small set of core principles (gradients, feedback, rate-limiting steps) so new material starts to make sense on its own.
Each lesson ends with a fresh case for you to solve, so we both know it has stuck.
Topics include
Physiology: cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, acid–base, endocrine, neurophysiology
Biochemistry: metabolism, enzymes, molecular biology, clinical biochemistry
Microbiology: bacterial structure and growth, host defence, mechanisms of infection, antimicrobials and resistance
Lessons are tailored to your course outline, upcoming exams and the areas you find hardest. Send me your unit outline before the first lesson and I'll plan around it.
These lessons are educational and are not medical advice.
