About Lila

My name is Lila Pollak, and I'm a student at Barnard College of Columbia University. I'm originally from San Francisco! I’ve loved reading and writing for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was an avid reader and competed in many spelling bees, which helped me develop a strong foundation in English, vocabulary, and grammar. My early love of language has continued into my studies at Columbia University, where I study Political Science, English, and Economics.

Beyond my academic background, I have experience working with children of various ages through tutoring, childcare, and educational support. My résumé includes experience helping students develop their literacy skills, and I have learned how important patience, encouragement, and individualized instruction are to helping children succeed.

As a tutor, I aim to make learning engaging, approachable, and tailored to each student's needs. Whether we are working on spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, or essay writing, I focus on breaking down challenging concepts, providing constructive feedback, and helping students build confidence in their abilities.

About the lesson

I tailor my teaching approach to each student's age, learning style, and academic needs. I focus on creating a supportive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building confidence. My techniques include guided practice, clear explanations of grammar and writing concepts, interactive exercises, and personalized feedback to help students strengthen their skills.

Typical Lessons:
Each lesson begins by identifying the student's goals and reviewing any areas of difficulty. We then work through targeted exercises, such as grammar practice, reading comprehension, essay writing, or homework assignments. I provide step-by-step guidance and constructive feedback before allowing the student to practice independently. Each session concludes with a review of progress and key concepts, with opportunities for extra practice before the next session.

Experience and Qualifications
As a college student studying Political Science and English with a minor in Economics, I bring strong writing, analytical, and communication skills to my tutoring. My experience working with children of various ages has taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and making learning enjoyable. I strive to help every student develop not only stronger academic skills but also the confidence to succeed independently.

I work with elementary, middle, and high school students seeking support with English, grammar, writing, reading comprehension, and homework. Whether a student needs help mastering foundational grammar, organizing essays, improving academic writing, or developing stronger study habits, I adapt each lesson to their grade level, coursework, and individual goals.
