About Wai Shing

I am an AI Research Scientist with a PhD in Physics from Brown University, and I previously conducted research at Microsoft Research Cambridge and the Flatiron Institute.

My passion for problem-solving started at age 13 through competitive programming, which grew into over 12 years of research experience in algorithms, computational biophysics, mathematical modelling, and machine learning. In my research, I work at the intersection of AI, cryo-EM data analysis, and computational protein design, developing Bayesian statistical methods and high-performance algorithms to model complex biomolecular structures.

Having worked at top-tier institutions, I firmly believe that high-level mastery should make difficult concepts simpler, not harder. My goal as a mentor is to replace the fear of hard STEM subjects with genuine curiosity, clear intuition, and the analytical confidence students need to thrive at every stage of their education.

About the lesson

I have over 200+ hours of tutoring taught this year alone and I specialise in A-Level and University-level tuition across:
- Mathematics & Further Maths: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations.
- Physics: Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Computational Physics.
- Computer Science: Discrete Mathematics, Data Structures & Algorithms, Python, C/C++
- Statistics & Data Science: Probability, Statistical Inference, Bayesian Data Analysis & Machine Learning.

My entire focus is on understanding what examiners are actually testing and showing students exactly how to break down those core concepts. Most students lose marks not from a lack of effort, but because they rely on surface memorisation without seeing the underlying structure that exam questions are designed to test.

By building genuine mathematical and physical intuition, we strip away the guesswork. This targeted approach is how my students consistently turn their academic trajectory around, taking struggling or failing marks straight to solid A and A* performance.

Hourly Rates by Level:
- GCSE / IGCSE (Maths/Physics): £45 / hr
- A-Level / Foundation Year (Maths/Further Maths/Physics) (OCR/AQA/Edexcel): £50 / hr
- University-Level Modules (Physics, Maths, CS): £55+ / hr (depends on module complexity)
