About Octavian
Hi there! I am glad you stopped by.
Studying math is not easy. Therefore, a tutor should help you make things easier, not to complicate them even further. Well, I know I can be of help to you in this respect, as I was to my other students in the past.
With an adequately relaxed yet, focused approach, learning math should become less of a burden. With my assistance, you should soon begin to feel much more comfortable in understanding the concepts and solving exercises.
A little bit of information about my background: I have earned my PhD degree in Pure Mathematics in 2019, from Western University, London, ON, Canada. It was followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Oklahoma State University, USA. I also earned a BSc degree in Computer Science in 1992, University of Bucharest, Romania.
In addition to my research activity, I consider teaching to be an equally important part of any true mathematician's background. Succeeding in making someone understand abstract concepts that are not easily comprehendible otherwise, provides a true teacher with great satisfaction. Let us not forget, your success as a student is also, partly, my success as a teacher.
I am thrilled about the opportunity to contribute with my 10 years (and going) of combined teaching experience to the benefit of my students in general, and to yours in particular.

My method of teaching can be summarized as follows: prepare the students thoroughly and maximize their capability to achieve their mathematical goal(s).
For example, a typical one-on-one session focuses on addressing the student's questions but also on providing the necessary guidance through practical, hands-on exercises and, if required, a brief review of the minimum necessary theoretical background, without which, exercises cannot be solved. The tutoring is tailored to the specific goals and current level of preparation of the student.
One category of customers I tutor are high-school students in the terminal years (especially 12 grade, or CEGEP) who intend to prepare and apply to an undergraduate program in Canada or in the US. Math NYA, NYB, NYC (Quebec), Math 400 (Ontario), SAT and ACT (US) preparation is available.
Another equally important category of students I teach/tutor comprises university students at all undergraduate levels and course-based master programs. The list includes, but is not limited to, the following areas: CALC I &II (Advanced Calculus), Vector Calculus (multi-variable calculus), Linear Algebra (all levels), Complex Analysis (I and II), Introduction to Abstract Algebra (algebraic structures), General Topology, Smooth Manifolds, and others.
My schedule does not currently allow for in person meetings, so, for now, my services are available online only. The students will only require the minimum technical equipment possible: access to a computer or smart device (a laptop or PC is recommended) with speakers, microphone, a web-camera and, also, a web browser and an email address.
The first session is dedicated to an overall evaluation of the current preparation level of the student, specific goals, special requirements the student may have, etc. and it is always commitment-free and free of charge. The goal of this session is not to address concrete mathematical questions, but to put in place an adequate tutoring plan (which may be slightly adjusted as progress is being made). It is also an opportunity for the student to get to interact with me and get to know my teaching approach.
In a relaxed, online environment, I strive to make tutoring a very effective but also enjoyable experience. I look forward to hearing from you :)

Octavian is an excellent tutor for his detailed explanations and great advice for preparation. When he tutored me for Calculus he focused on the topics that I found most difficult and clarified my misconceptions very well.
