About Laura

Hi there! I’m Laura, a PhD graduate in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto with a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bath (UK). Over the past 10+ years, I’ve helped hundreds of students transform their grades—from struggling to confident, from good to outstanding. Why Choose Me? Elite Academic Background: - Scored 100% in Chemistry, Physics, and Math exams during my own studies—I know what it takes to ace them. - Conducted cutting-edge research in neuromodulation at Toronto’s top hospitals, giving me real-world insights into science and problem-solving. Proven Teaching Excellence: - 10+ years of one-on-one tutoring (UK), specializing in IB, A-Levels, AP. - My students consistently achieve **A/A* grades (UK-based system) and IB 7s**, with many securing spots at top universities (including Oxbridge and Ivy Leagues). Tailored, Stress-Free Learning: - I adapt to your learning style—whether you need structured exam prep, conceptual deep dives, or last-minute rescue sessions. - No judgment, no rushing: We move at your pace, turning confusion into clarity. My Teaching Philosophy I believe anyone can excel in STEM with the right guidance. My lessons blend: Deep Understanding (no rote memorization!) Exam-Smart Strategies (learn what markers actually want) Real-World Relevance (see how chemistry powers everything from medicines to clean energy) Who I Work With I specialize in middle, high school and university students tackling: - Chemistry: IB HL/SL, AP, A-Level, SCH3U/SCH4U, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry. - Math: IB, AP Calculus, Ontario MHF4U/MCV4U Let’s Get Started! I offer a free 30-minute consultation to discuss your goals and design a personalized plan. Whether you’re aiming for a grade jump, exam mastery, or just want to stop dreading chemistry, I’m here to help. Fun fact: When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me baking (yes, stoichiometry applies to cookies too!). Message me today—let’s turn your STEM struggles into strengths!

With 10+ years of tutoring experience and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, I’ve refined a methodology that combines conceptual mastery with exam-smart strategies—tailored to each student’s goals and learning style.

Teaching Methodology & Techniques:

1. Diagnostic First Session:
- Identify strengths/gaps through a short quiz or discussion (e.g., "Where do you struggle most—stoichiometry or organic mechanisms?").
- Set clear targets (e.g., "Raise your IB Chemistry score from a 5 to a 7 in 12 weeks").

2. Conceptual Clarity → Application:
- Break down complex topics using analogies (e.g., "Think of Le Chatelier’s Principle like a crowded elevator adjusting to new people").
- Visual aids: Molecular models, reaction diagrams, and curated animations (especially for organic chemistry).

3. Active Problem-Solving:
- Guided practice: Work through problems together, emphasizing why steps matter (not just how).
- Past papers & mark schemes: Dissect 5+ years of exam questions to predict patterns (e.g., "IB HL loves asking about buffer systems").

4. Spaced Repetition & Retrieval:
- End each lesson with a *"5-Minute Recap Challenge"* (e.g., "Quickly sketch the mechanism for electrophilic addition").
- Provide summary sheets for key topics (e.g., "All NMR Shifts on One Page").
