About Gavin

I am a professional educator, actor, public speaking coach, and technology specialist with a **Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater from Cornish College of the Arts, a Master of Science in Computer Science, and post-baccalaureate studies in Education at National University.**

My professional teaching experience includes serving as a **Teaching Artist with Seattle Shakespeare Company and Studio East**, teaching theater, Shakespeare, character development, improvisation, and performance techniques. I have also taught public speaking and creative writing through Best Brains Learning Centers and offered independent instruction through Outschool.

My theatrical training includes **four years of intensive voice and speech study**, including the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), Edith Skinner's speech techniques, dialect training, Stanislavski's acting methods, Viewpoints, and Suzuki-based performance techniques. My professional acting experience spans stage performance, interactive theater, and voice acting, including work on *Halo: Reach*.

Beyond the performing arts, I have extensive professional experience in software quality assurance, telecommunications, technical training, and customer-facing communication. This combination of artistic and technical disciplines allows me to teach communication from both expressive and analytical perspectives.

**My specialties include public speaking, elocution, vocal articulation, interpersonal communication, confidence building, active listening, and personal development.**

I also help students develop practical communication skills for professional environments, relationships, interviews, presentations, and difficult conversations.

My teaching philosophy emphasizes that effective communication is not simply about speaking well. It is about understanding your audience, recognizing your intentions, listening actively, and expressing yourself with clarity, empathy, and confidence.

I tailor each lesson to the individual, drawing upon theatrical exercises, structured communication techniques, and real-world scenarios to help students develop skills they can use immediately.
